Botulinum toxin injections (Botox®)
By injecting micro-doses of botulinum toxin, Docteur Lionel Sallaz will aim to relax certain superficial facial muscles that are too contracted and place tension on the skin.
Soften expression lines
Injections are performed in the upper face, including the forehead, 'crow's feet' (outer corners of the eyes), 'frown lines' (between the eyebrows), and sometimes the upper nose ('bunny lines').
The lower face can also be treated and relaxed. Fine lines on the upper lip, just beneath the nose, and those affecting the chin or neck can be largely reduced.
At your first consultation, you and your surgeon will determine the areas of the face you wish to treat and 'soften'.
This is a medical treatment (as botulinum toxin is a medicine), the practice of which is restricted to a limited number of doctors specifically trained in this highly targeted, bespoke therapy. Careful dosing and ultra-precise placement of injection points, tailored to each face, will allow certain lines to be softened while maintaining a natural appearance.
This therapy has been used for over 30 years in medicine to relax certain muscles in various conditions (ophthalmology, neurology, etc.). This long-standing medical use provides reassurance that, to date, botulinum toxin has not been implicated in the development of serious disease, even in the long term.
It is also commonly used to reduce excessive sweating for a prolonged period in the underarms (and sometimes the hands and feet).
Excessive sweat production is thereby blocked, allowing patients to regain real comfort in daily life for at least 6 months.
It is currently the most effective treatment to provide lasting relief from this very debilitating problem in daily life.
Some patients see a lasting reduction in headaches they had experienced for years after botulinum toxin injections. Thus, these injections have 'their' place in the treatment of certain headaches that are resistant to 'conventional' therapies, as is the case in the USA.
